Retronauts Episode 315: Samurai Shodown

"Long long ago, there were a podcast who try to make his skill ultimate..."

This week we have an exciting and timely episode for you to enjoy, as one of the greatest fighting game series of all time has just been re-released on a variety of platforms as a very inclusive collection, and our guest on the show was deeply involved in the creation of said collection.

That series is Samurai Shodown, that collection is the the Samurai Shodown NEOGEO Collection, and our guest is Brandon Sheffield of Necrosoft Games and Insert Credit. Brandon worked with SNK to assemble this collection and translate the previously unreleased Samurai Shodown V Perfect - not only that, he helped recover it and then fought to get it in the collection in the first place! He joins Jeremy Parish and Diamond Feit (hi!) to supply this episode with lots of inside-baseball talk of negotiating with SNK archivists, struggling with in-game character limits, and walking the streets of Esaka where SNK remains to this day.

Oh, and if you hear a dog barking in the background of this episode...that's just Galford's beloved Poppy.

Description: Jeremy Parish and Diamond Feit set the wayback machine for feudal Japan to learn about the secrets of the Samurai Shodown series from Brandon Sheffield, who trawled the SNK archives to research and write the Samurai Shodown Collection.
