Retronauts Episode 335: Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII

Here is a non-controversial statement: Final Fantasy VII was a good video game. I played it for many, many hours, despite not playing Final Fantasy "II" or "III" before it. I wasn't alone; FFVII was a huge hit and it was the first JRPG experience for many players outside Japan. Naturally, when a product makes a splash of that magnitude, you make more of it. And not just more Final Fantasy (which Square certainly did), but more Final Fantasy VII, specifically.

Hence the subject of this week's episode, Crisis Core, a PSP-prequel to Final Fantasy VII that concluded the "Compilation of Final Fantasy VII" series of games - and a movie - which expanded upon the then-recent saga of Cloud, Sephiroth, Aerith, and the rest. Crisis Core isn't really about Cloud's crew, it's about Zack. Remember Zack? He's a part of Final Fantasy VII, but not an active participant. He's more of a guy that people remembered a lot, or misremembered, or intentionally reimagined as the case may be. But Crisis Core is Zack's time to be the spiky-haired protagonist he was meant to be.

Joining Jeremy to discuss Crisis Core and Zack and Gackt (yes) are guests Nadia Oxford of USGamer.net & the Axe of the Blood God podcast and Bill Nielsen of So Many Bits. Joining this discussion as an audience member is...YOU (like comment subscribe!)

Description: A double-request topic as we follow up our Final Fantasy VII coverage by looking back at its PSP-exclusive prequel Crisis Core. Bill Nielsen joins Jeremy Parish and Nadia Oxford as they fire up the Digital Mind Wave for some fond rememberies.
