2022 is already 1/6th over! I heard there was an Olympics? Anyway, that's over too. The next big thing to look forward to might be the end of winter, if we are lucky. Of course, there are plenty of video games to look forward to, and if any of these items listed below interest you, their creators look forward to your money!
As always, we have no insider information or financial interest in any of these projects, and no one at Retronauts has been compensated for including anything on this page. Also, in light of the ongoing pandemic, we recommend only backing crowdfunding campaigns if you feel comfortable with your own security and stability.
Solomon's Demons (ends March 2 estimated reward date December 2023)
A video game based on Dante's Inferno? That couldn't work, could it? Oh wait, it's a 2D Metroidvania based on Dante's Inferno, say no more! The hand-drawn animation is also a welcome touch.
GigaSword (ends March 3 estimated reward date December 2023)
I wish I could tell you GigaSword was a video game about wielding 1000 swords at once, but alas, it's just a Metroidvania about a guy who carries one large sword, a weapon "meant for an 8 foot tall owl-man." I couldn't find said owl-man in the sizable demo on Steam, but I played enough to know that this game looks great—so I backed it!
Mina the Hollower (ends March 3 estimated reward date December 2023)
Yacht Club Games, makers of Shovel Knight, wish to make a modern version of a retro game again. The twist with Mina the Hollower is that it has all the traits of long-lost Game Boy Color game, not an NES game. It also looks incredible, befitting the Yacht Club legacy, and features tiny chiptunes from Jake Kaufman.
Mercury Abbey (ends March 4 estimated reward date December 2022)
Metroidvania, Metroidvania, Metroidvania…c-c-c-combo breaker! Mercury Abbey is an adventure game, one with pixel art and starring furries...all furries. The team of 4 developers claim they made Tales of the Neon Sea, but this is for a new studio, so read into that what you will.
Mawthorne (ends March 10 estimated reward date November 2022)
Finally, another Metroidvania, I was getting worried. This one is being designed to run on actual Famicom/NES hardware, as well as Sega Dreamcast? Also, all three versions of the game will have physical releases, and the Famicom version will be localized into Japanese. Something for everyone!
Turmoil 2022 (ends March 17 estimated reward date June 2022)
Lastly, you love to see it: Turmoil 2022 came out last year, a brand-new game for the 39-year-old Colecovision home console ("Over 150 copies have been sold to date"). Now the man behind it wants to port the game to the 39-year-old Aquarius home console. We must help him accomplish this.
