The 1992 fighting game Mortal Kombat became an arcade smash. Then it came home to consoles and helped establish the practice of hyping a specific launch date for video game releases with Mortal Monday. Of course, there would be a sequel. Naturally, this means we must also make a sequel to our previous episode all about the creation, release, and impact of Mortal Kombat from last year.
This week, host Diamond Feit, Stuart Gipp, and author of Long Live Mortal Kombat David L. Craddock return to the airwaves for an aggressive friendship of a podcast as they dissect and dive into Mortal Kombat II, (Ultimate) Mortal Kombat 3, and Mortal Kombat Trilogy. All the characters, all the actors, all the changes the series went through as it achieved international notoriety; it's a long conversation to wrap up the second-dimension of MK.
For the record, we recorded this episode before the announcement that the next release launching this fall will be called Mortal Kombat 1, so whenever we say "Mortal Kombat 1," we're talking about the actual first game in the series, not whatever's coming in the theoretical future. Adding the number one to the latest entry in a long-running franchise? Is that your best?
Description: DUN DUN DUN…Podcast? Again? Diamond Feit, Stuart Gipp, and author David L. Craddock return to Outworld—and the 90s—for a bone-crunching conversation about Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 3.
