Retronauts Episode 669: Silent Hill 2 Remake

We've spent multiple episodes of Retronauts talking about the Resident Evil franchise but Capcom's landmark survival horror series wasn't the only game in town. Whatever happened to Konami's off-kilter and arguably far more disturbing response, Silent Hill? We've touched upon it here and there in the past—mostly in Patreon-exclusive conversations—but now that Konami and Bloober Team have remade Silent Hill 2 for modern audiences, it's high time we talk about what makes this game so special and how the new version impressed us.

As host, I (Diamond Feit) serve as the rookie Silent Hill player on this podcast, having seen and read about these games for years before finally playing one for myself in 2024. Offsetting my innocence are veteran Silent Hill sickos* Jess O'Brien and Josh Stinson to better explain how this version differs from—and actually improves upon—the original game from 2001.

Fair warning: while I wouldn't call this a spoiler-heavy conversation, we necessarily discuss many aspects of the characters and story, so consider that if you haven't played Silent Hill 2 yet. Alternatively, you can watch my playthrough or Jess & Josh's playthrough entirely on YouTube and see us react in real-time to James Sunderland's terrible trip down Memory Lane.

Description: Radio? Check. Pocket flashlight? Check. Ultra high-res graphics? Check! Diamond Feit, Jess O'Brien and Josh Stinson tick all the boxes as they break down the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2.
