Kickstarter Kompilation: March 2025 edition

Can I editorialize for a moment? Having written this column for over six years now, it breaks my heart to see how many Kickstarter pitches use generative AI these days. I understand that making games requires a lot of time and money, but if you don't see the value in investing in your dream project, why would I? End soapbox.

As always, we have no insider information or financial interest in any of these projects, and no one at Retronauts has been compensated for including anything on this page. Also, in light of the ongoing pandemic, we recommend only backing crowdfunding campaigns if you feel comfortable with your own security and stability.

Tails of Fate (ends March 7 estimated reward date Dec 2026)
A "cute & furry dark Metroidvania," Tails of Fate draws influence from the usual suspects (Symphony of the Night, Hollow Knight) and a few surprises like Mega Man 11. There's a demo on Steam if you'd like to try it for yourself.

Hippoxxus (ends March 15 estimated reward date Nov 2025)
I'm not sure how to pronounce the title of Hippoxxus, "a sci-fi action/adventure Metroidvania," but I appreciate a rare double-X. There's a demo on Steam if you'd like to try it for yourself.

Gas Station Story (ends March 27 estimated reward date June 2025)
We've seen our share of new games for the Game Boy platform, but precious few of them use the system's famed Camera attachment. Gas Station Story does, with "over 170 unique portraits" taken by the peripheral. There's a demo on Steam and Itch.io if you'd like to try it for yourself.

Snout (ends March 31 estimated reward date Oct 2025)
What did I just say about Game Boy games on Kickstarter? This "authentic retro platformer" stars a pig, hence the title. There's a demo on Itch.io if you'd like to try it for yourself.

Automaton Heart (ends March 31 estimated reward date Dec 2025)
Did you play Automaton Lung? It was one of the last 3DS eShop releases before Nintendo closed that storefront, although developer Luke Vincent also brought it to Steam where it exists as an uncanny throwback action/exploration game. Automaton Heart, based on the demo, looks to carry that tradition forward with the addition of "a detailed organ management system."
