According to Nintendo's official records, Metroid launched on the American Nintendo Entertainment System on August 6, 1987. That was exactly 30 years ago this Sunday. And what better way to celebrate than with a live stream? Or rather, yet another live stream?
Last week, I hosted a couple of Metroid streams wherein I attempted to map out the game in real-time. Ths coming Sunday morning, I'll be finishing off the project... or making a sincere effort, at least. I still need to map most of Kraid's lair, a big chunk of Norfair, Ridley's entire hideout, and of course Tourian (the Mother Brain's lair). Can I finish it before running out of steam? Join me on my YouTube channel at 9 a.m. ET this Sunday morning to find out!
Of course, I'll post the archives for anyone who wants to see how it goes but doesn't want to wake up early on a Sunday morning. Speaking of archives, you can bring yourself up speed with the pre-recorded versions of the first two Metroid streams below. See you Sunday! Maybe!
Update: The stream is complete and turned out to be a reasonable success! Thanks to the 200-odd people who tuned in. Feel free to skim through the final archived chapter of this saga if you're curious to see how it went. My hope is to rework this map into a poster-sized version you can either download or purchase at some point.
And here are the near-final results of the mapping endeavor, all pieced together.
Happy Metroid's birthday, everyone!
