I'll be heading out to San Francisco soon to meet up with Bob and our usual crew of retrogaming experts for a weekend of podcast recording, and before I hop on the plane I wanted to put out one last call for mail. This one is a lot more… well, not more esoteric than the other mail solicitations I've out out this week. But it definitely covers a less popular topic.
By patron request (from our "pick a topic" tier), we're going to be looking at Final Fantasy Legend II, aka SaGa 2. It's a pretty great portable RPG, but I don't think there's quite enough material there to support an entire episode… so we'll be looking at the entire Final Fantasy Legend trilogy. And also some important related titles: Final Fantasy II for NES, which informed the design of the Legend games, and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, a creation that bears enormous similarities to Final Fantasy Legend 3 (thanks to sharing a lot of development staff in common). We'll also be looking at some recent and upcoming titles that draw inspiration (and talent) from the SaGa series.
So, if you have memories, thoughts, or opinions on any of the following, drop me a line or leave a missive here no later than Saturday Sept. 30:
- Final Fantasy II (Famicom)
- The Final Fantasy Legend/Makai Toushi SaGa (Game Boy)
- Final Fantasy Legend II/SaGa 2 (Game Boy)
- Final Fantasy Legend III/SaGa 3 (Game Boy)
- Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (Super NES)
- Makai Toushi SaGa for WonderSwan
- SaGa 2: Goddess of Destiny (DS)
- SaGa 3: Darkness or Light (DS)
- Legend of Legacy (3DS)
- The Alliance Alive (3DS)
- Octopath Traveler (Switch)
Note that this list does not include Romancing SaGa, SaGa Frontier, Unlimited SaGa, or Scarlet Grace. We'll hit those some other time…
As usual, I prefer you email me at jparish [at] retronauts [dot] com, but you can leave a comment here, too. Try to keep ’em to around 200-250 words, if you could! Makes it easier for us not to have to edit you down on the fly.
Thanks, and we look forward to including you in our roundtable discussion of these divisive RPGs!
