Not too long ago, we published a podcast episode examining a new game — The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild — from the perspective of its rich and substantial connections to its heritage. That episode went over quite well with everyone, and we received a lot of requests to create more like it. So, here we are: With Mario's latest odyssey (Super Mario Odyssey, specifically) in stores and warmly embracing the franchise's heritage all the way back to the original Donkey Kong, how could we do anything less than give it a similar treatment?
Mario pros Chris Kohler and Henry Gilbert will be joining me and Bob this weekend to give a thorough going-over to Odyssey and its classic nods… not to mention its improvements upon the past. We'd like to include your take on the game in this episode as well! Does it live up to its past? Does it improve on past Mario 3D games, or has something precious been lost? Is it, at last, a better Mario game than New Super Mario Bros. U?*
As always, drop me an email at jparish [at] retronauts [dot] com by end of day Friday (Dec. 1) and we'll try to include it in the episode. (You can also post a comment here, but I'll be prioritizing email messages since they're easier to sort through during a recording session.) Please try to keep your comments to around 200 words, if you'd be so kind.
* Trick question; nothing is.
