Retronauts Episode 644: Bayonetta

The Xbox 360 is a largely untapped mine for us on Retronauts, one I believe we'll touch upon more often as the system approaches its 20th anniversary in 2025. For now, we're covering a 2009 release that, at a mere 15 years old, has had quite a large impact on gaming and gaming conversations since its debut.

Bayonetta made headlines right away with an in-your-face sexy protagonist and high-speed demanding action. A three-month gap between its Japanese and American release only added to the mystique, as supporters and detractors had plenty of time to argue online about the game's merit or lack thereof. Today, with Bayonetta an official Smash Brother with two sequels and a prequel under her belt, it's hard to imagine a time when she wasn't the center of attention.

Stuart Gipp hosts this week's episode with guest Seumidh MacDonald as the two of them touch upon everything that makes Bayonetta the game and Bayonetta the character appealing. Bonus: as far as you know, neither speaker on the podcast wears a stitch of clothing, instead solely covering their shame with their own hair.
