Retronauts Episode 735: Intellivision

no it's not a TV that makes you smarter

NES-this, NES-that; we rightly devote a lot of oxygen to the legendary 8-bit console but let's not pretend that Nintendo filled a void left by Atari alone. Plenty of other companies released their own platforms in the early 80s and some of them maintain fan bases to this day.

Case in point: Mattel's Intellivision. The House That Barbie Built looked at the success of the 2600 and said "hold my Dream House." Host Kevin Bunch talks to Tom Boellstorff and Braxton Soderman about their book Intellivision: How a Video Game System Battled Atari and Almost Bankrupted Barbie about the 1979 machine and its legacy.

Description: It's the closest thing to the real thing! Kevin Bunch and expert guests Tom Boellstorff and Braxston Soderman talk about the Atari 2600’s chief rival, the Mattel Intellivision.
