Retronauts Episode 785: Capcom's Barbarian Legacy

Dedicated to those who tussle with muscles

It can't be easy to come up with video game protagonists one after another. If you're making an action game, you'll need a hero willing and able to take down bad guys by the dozens. They'll need to embody strength, encapsulate bravery, and more importantly, they have to look good while doing that.

Enter the barbarian: Skilled in the art of war, they wield large weapons and seldom wear shirts. Who better to surround with hideous monsters so the player can feel like a champion whose name shall be recorded in the annals of history—or at the very least, the high score table.

Following our look at Capcom platformers, host Jeremy Parish gathers Stuart Gipp and Patrick Kulkowski around the campfire for this episode about Capcom's flings with mighty men and women.

Description: Jeremy Parish, Stuart Gipp, and Patrick Kulikowski gird their loincloths to discuss some of Capcom's deeper historic cuts: games where burly men (and ladies) smash and bash baddies.
