Retronauts Episode 692: Perfect Dark

does MI6 even have jurisdiction on other planets? I think not!

For those of you old enough to remember playing video games in 1997, GoldenEye 007 needs no introduction. Rare's first-person shooter for the Nintendo 64 defined the genre for a generation of young adults as living rooms, dorm rooms, and any room with four controllers turned into a secret agent battleground. Yet three years later, Rare released a spiritual successor for the Nintendo 64 that arguably improved upon GoldenEye 007's formula but this sophomore effort earned far less praise (to say nothing of sales).

This week on the podcast, Diamond Feit welcomes Kevin Bunch and first-time guest Cara Ellison to quickly summarize Rare's earlier effort before discussing Perfect Dark, a would-be sci-fi series that continues to make headlines today—even if it's because a forthcoming new entry continues to evade fans' collective grasp. Description Celebrating 25 years of Rare's other groundbreaking first-person shooter for the Nintendo 64, Diamond Feit, Kevin Bunch, and Cara Ellison share their mutual affection for Perfect Dark.
