Kickstarter Kompilation: August 2025 edition
Howdy everybody, August once again means I've got a flight to catch so let's skip the preamble and get to the goods. As always, we have no insider information or financial interest in any of these projects, and no one at Retronauts has been compensated for including anything on this page. To the best of my ability I have not (and never will) endorse any campaign built around AI-generated assets. Also, in light of the ongoing pandemic, we recommend only backing crowdfunding campaigns if you feel comfortable with your own security and stability.
Hyper Sentinel Fusion (ends TODAY estimated reward date July 2026)
Yes this one ends mere hours from now so act fast; there's a demo on Steam and itch.io if you need convincing. Also, props to this developer for showing off a "3.5" Mega Floppy physical edition" of their game that secretly contains a thumb drive, one that likely contains enough storage space equivalent to hundreds if not thousands of real-life diskettes.
Metal Miracle (ends August 3 estimated reward date July 2026)
The team behind last year's successful Hermano crowdfunding campaign are back with a new project for the Game Boy Color this time. Metal Miracle stars two heroes "saving Earth with the power of heavy metal" and you can play a demo right now on itch.io.
Boss Fight Books: Season 8 (ends August 6 estimated reward date February 2026)
I trust our readers know Boss Fight Books by now, especially since Bob Mackey wrote one of their releases. This year they're funding books about Legend of the River King, Life is Strange, and Dragon Age II. The campaign has already surpassed its base goal but many stretch goals remain, including those that offer discounts on other titles or even bonus books.
Drăculești (ends August 10 estimated reward date February 2026)
This project ticks a lot of my personal boxes such as queer characters, vampires, and Count Dracula. In the developers' own words, Drăculești will turn "subtext into domtext" by making Renfield's obsession with the inbound Transylvanian aristocrat romantic—although players will have other partners to pick from in the finished game. There's a demo on Steam and itch.io if you want to know more.
CopperStorm (ends August 15 estimated reward date August 2026)
Making an arcade-style scrolling shooter is commendable, but making one for Mega Drive, Neo-Geo, and SNES is downright generous. I don't know how those three platforms overlap but Neofid Studios has taken this multi-console approach before with 2021's Demons Of Asteborg.
CrowHallow (ends August 29 estimated reward date October 2025)
If you're looking to get a jump on Halloween this year—less than 100 days away by now—consider backing this "90s and early 2000s inspired Halloween shooter." The students behind the project started last October and intend to release it this October. There's a demo on Steam if you're in a spooky mood.
