Retronauts Episode 336: Back to the Future Part II
Y O U ' R E F I R E D ! ! !
It's always a joy when podcast titles and podcast subjects converge: this week's episode is about Back to the Future Part II but it's also our second episode about Back to the Future so it's a nice double entendre. Our first Back to the Future episode was a Patreon exclusive, for the record, and it is still available to all $5 Retronauts supporters - there's no better time to join!
As for the here and now, this episode necessitates a lot of talk about 2015 which was five years ago (not quite retro) and the completely unsubtle fact that evil Biff in 1985-A is a direct parody of Donald Trump, albiet one written many years before he made good on his threat to run for office. On that note, this episode was recorded well before the 2020 presidential election, so there's some tension in the air that we hope is now cathartic given the results.
Joining Jeremy and Bob are frequent guest Henry Gilbert and first-time-in-a-while guest Dave Rudden. Unfortunately, time did not allow for much discussion of the video games based on Back to the Future Part II but don't worry, we'll be sure to circle back to them when we inevitably talk about the superior sequel (yeah, I said it).
Description: We're going back to the Back to the Future trilogy for a podcast discussion about what could be the most interesting sequel of all time! When Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale put together the original Back to the Future in 1985, they had no idea they would have such a massive hit on their hands—or that their joke ending would set the second movie's plot in stone. But by working against adversity, the two crafted a highly satisfying sequel that doubled down on time travel antics, and even added alternate universes into the mix. (And might have even predicted the future with 1985-A...) On this episode, join Bob Mackey, Jeremy Parish, Henry Gilbert, and Dave Rudden as the crew talks so much about Back to the Future Part II they have to save the video game discussion for the next episode. So listen now—unless you're chicken!
