Kickstarter Kompilation: April 2024 edition
Get in, hot stuff, we're funding indie games & books
I'll keep this brief: if you've been listening to our recent podcasts you'll know I'm on an airplane today so here, enjoy these Kickstarter campaigns I wrote about before heading to the airport. As always, we have no insider information or financial interest in any of these projects, and no one at Retronauts has been compensated for including anything on this page. Also, in light of the ongoing pandemic, we recommend only backing crowdfunding campaigns if you feel comfortable with your own security and stability.
Godshard Chronicles (ends April 3 estimated reward date Dec 2026)
Is each shard of a god also divine? How small a percentage must you cut from infinity to produce anything less than infinity? Oops, I'm overthinking the name of this top-down 2D RPG which cites The Legend of Zelda, Lunar, Grandia, and the Mana games as inspirations. Also, there's co-op!
An Amazing Wizard (ends April 7 estimated reward date Dec 2024)
"Dead Cells but with wizards" is a strong pitch, and this "metroidvania-inspired Action Roguelike" certainly looks the part. However, instead of relying on voxels, they're going for 2D sprite art instead, which pleases me. Try the demo and see if it pleases you.
Jill O' Lantern (ends April 14 estimated reward date Oct 2024)
"Ace Attorney meets Friday the 13th and Groundhog Day" damn these indie devs really know how to put a sentence together, don't they? I'll be honest, I'm here for the muscle-bound pumpkin-headed serial killer, but you can try the first chapter on itch.io if you need more info about this project.
Killing Our Gods (ends April 19 estimated reward date Aug 2024)
Again, selling me with just the title! Seriously though, this book looks at "the bizarre intersections between the divine and technological," specifically how video games tackle religion in ways that non-interactive forms of media cannot. You can read one essay from the author about Mass Effect on her website.
Globulo (ends April 28 estimated reward date Jan 2027)
A bullet hell Metroidvania sounds good, but a bullet hell Metroidvania starring a bunch of little blobby critters sounds even better. More cute action games, please!
