Retronauts Episode 621: Mad Max
Next stop: The Podcast Farm
In the history of Americo-Australian-ian relations, one property has outlasted all others. Paul Hogan, Yahoo Serious, Midnight Oil…none of them can hold a candle to George Miller's Mad Max series of films. For 45 years now the world has watched this uniquely Aussie take on the end of the world and we have agreed that these movies are Very Good.
With decades of films and a significant impact on the world of games (even if only two ever successfully came out), this week we look at the Mad Max franchise. Bob Mackey sits in the driver's seat for this podcast with Diamond Feit riding shotgun and Stuart Gipp strapped to the hood. Together, we run down the history of these pictures, explain why we find them so captivating, and engage in some light speculation regarding what role we might serve in Max's post-apocalyptic society. I call dibs on data entry!
Description: When an Australian emergency room doctor set out to make a humble little car chase movie in the late '70s, he had no idea it would turn into an incredibly long-lived franchise that would light our minds on fire and cause us all to drive just a little bit faster. And now that nearly 50 years have passed, the Mad Max franchise has remained incredibly pure, with only five movies and a whopping two video games to speak of. On this episode of Retronauts, join Bob Mackey, Diamond Feit, and Stuart Gipp as the crew enters a veritable Thunderdome of podcasting to chat about Mad Max. WITNESS US!
