Kickstarter Kompilation: June 2026 edition

AOKAKI = "blue persimmon"

We dodged a bullet when Kickstarter announced a ban on all "adult" material—a reactionary move that benefits no one—before the online response elicited an apology and a total reversal. I avoid highlighting anything outright pornographic in these pages but dammit, porn has an audience and people make their living catering to that audience.

As a general rule we recommend only backing crowdfunding campaigns if you feel comfortable with your own security and stability. We have no insider information or financial interest in any of these projects (unless noted otherwise) and no one at Retronauts has been compensated for including anything on this page. To the best of my ability I have not (and never will) endorse any campaign built around AI-generated assets.

Pixels and Polygons Quarterly (ends June 7 estimated reward date August 2026)
Darren Hupke returns with a new issue containing stories about Gravity Rush, Low G Man, and VVVVVV. I notice there's a theme connecting those three titles: They are ALL video games. Take note that Retronauts cohost Stuart Gipp is amongst the listed contributors as is friend of the podcast Maddie Copp.

AOKAKI (ends June 15 estimated reward date June 2027)
Coming out of Brazil under the stewardship of three developers, AOKAKI promises 2D action in a world of bugs. The team says they've been working on AOKAKI for three years and hope to release it in 2027. In the meantime, they've prepared a demo on Steam.

Astro Burn (ends June 18 estimated reward date September 2026)
Lord knows the world needs more cute-’em-ups and Astro Burn looks to deliver. Even though the developers intend to release the game on Steam, they're making a physical version in the form of a cartridge with a USB drive inside. They've also uploaded a demo for you to try.

War Thunder Gaming Tank Controller (ends June 20 estimated reward date October 2026)
I've never heard of War Thunder but I'm engrossed by the idea of controlling a video game with this lovely piece of hardware "made from steel and aluminium" out of the United Kingdom. Why settle for a d-pad or an analog stick when you could be pulling on levers and stomping on foot pedals? Honestly, I hope this project gets funded just so I can see a GDQ Resident Evil speedrun with actual tank controls someday.

Rock,Paper,Scissors,SHOOT! (ends June 24 estimated reward date June 2026!)
The history of video games will forever include rock-paper-scissors, a pure contest of wits where every player has three moves and none of them are bad. In this eponymous "fast-paced 2D indie rogue-like game" players will battle against various oddballs in a quest to make some money.
