Metal Gear turns 30; let's map it [updated with stream and maps]

Join Jeremy for a livestream experiment fraught with potential for failure.

I posted a couple of days ago about my newfound love for manual game mapping... or rather, my renewed love for it. I've been plotting my way through the original Metal Gear, and per the article header, I've even begun converting the areas I've fully mapped out into a larger format that I intend to, I don't know, turn into a poster or something.

With tomorrow being the 30th anniversary of Metal Gear's original launch on the MSX computer in Japan, I thought it might prove entertaining to attempt a live run of this mapping project. So, please join me at approximately 3 p.m. Thursday (ET, noon PT) as I give it my best effort.

Update: The stream is complete and you can view the archived version:

Please note that I make no guarantees this will work out. The picture-in-picture feature of my streaming app is still in beta, and it seems a little janky. I tried a trial run yesterday with a Final Fantasy V playthough and had trouble with crashes and mic quality. But, it did work, more or less, so I'm hoping for the best.

Sadly, I won't be able to stream the MSX version of Metal Gear. I've been playing through the game on the Metal Gear Solid Collection for Vita, but that release frustratingly isn't compatible with PlayStation TV. So you'll have to bear with me as I play instead through the NES game, which is a bit on the janky side, much like my streaming app. On the other hand, at least it's an excuse to start up a new map...
