YouTube round-up: THE GREATEST CONSOLE OF ALL TIME
Undisputed.
Welcome to this week's YouTube round-up! Illness edition! When you've spent most of a week in bed feeling sorry for yourself, YouTube videos are always a good thing to have to make you feel somewhat better and distract you somewhat from your nose feeling like cement's setting inside of it, and that your throat feels like a level from Super Meat Boy. If that's part of your weekend plans, then these videos from the past seven days of the Tubes might just be up your street! So here goes.
- ChinnyVision has done a review on the greatest console ever, the Amstrad GX4000. For true accuracy, I expect him to do another review in about six months or so time when the system inevitably blows up or otherwise stops working for some reason. They were, after all, somewhat fragile.
- DJ Slope has got another one of his complete histories out! This one covers those two shmup classics by Treasure, Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga. It would be foolish to take refuge from this video.
- The Game Awards happened, there were a bunch of cool trailers but nothing too unmissable...well, except for when Josef Fares came on stage and did this. More people should be drunk at these sorts of things.
- This is somewhat close to home, but there are two videos already covering the awesome event that occurred in Fabric last week when Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima hit London and played loits of Streets of Rage music. Onaretrotip and DJ Slope have both done one, and mine's coming on Monday.
- It's A Pixel THING is one of those heavily underrated and superbly produced YouTube channels that needs more viewers, stat. The Portuguese maestro has blessed us with a special video paying tribute to the almighty Mega Drive.
- One day you simply have to face it...You Suck At Cooking. But don't worry, because You Suck At Cooking is here to teach you how to make Chicken Tikka Masala, in his own somewhat idiosyncratic way.
- In the early years of YouTube, retrogaming vids were chill - just point a camera at the screen and have a natter. Some of the old masters are still at it, and one of those is Lawnboyspost1975 -- who paired up perfectly with my Team17 vid by doing a little gameplay of Superfrog. Still one of the best intros on YouTube.
- LGR gets posted here every week, but...seriously, it's an AIM Retrospective to commemorate the closure of the service. The nostalgia is just too freaking much. RIP to "TheShermanator".
- Another special review channel on YouTube that isn't games is RegularCarReviews, the Hunter S. Clarkson of automobile reviews. His video this week is on the Mazda Autozam AZ-1, and anything with those doors is guaranteed to be a winner.
- I'm very basic. If I see a video from Mark Wiens with "DEEP FRIED WAGYU BEEF" in the title, I click it. There's nothing better than watching people go to foreign countries and eat food.
- Finally, VWestlife stokes more fires of technological nostalgia with a question no-one asked but always wondered: Why were old computers so...well, beige? He's got answers, naturally.
And that'll do it for another week! Hopefully you enjoy this usual wide-ranging selection of gaming vids and other assorted treasures, and join me in precisely seven days time for another lot. Oh, there was also that YouTube Rewind thing too, but it's not on the round-up on account of it being the worst video ever made by anyone -- so watch these instead, and post some of your own favourites in the comments! Bye for now.
