Retronauts Episode 357: 10 years of Nintendo 3DS

In a world where Nintendo is riding high on Switch sales, the year of 2011 must feel like a distant memory. Back then, with sales of the DS and Wii drying up, the Kyoto game titan had to rush a new console to market - one with glasses-free 3D graphics and an extra-dimensional price tag to match.

Yes, the Nintendo 3DS turns 10 years old this month, and I (me! Diamond Feit!) am the special guest joining Jeremy and Bob on this episode because all three of us were active in the gaming press when the eye-searing handheld was released, which means we all remember the shocking turn of events that followed.

On a personal note, I dug out my 3DS for this recording and carried it around the famously population-dense Kansai area of Japan and I'm sad to report I did not Streetpass with a single person. 2011 really was a long time ago...

Description: Jeremy Parish, Bob Mackey, and Diamond Feit look back at the Nintendo 3DS on the occasion of its 10th birthday. The li’l fella may have had a rough early childhood, but we explore how it eventually grew into the elegant swan we all knew and loved.
